Artist Statement:
Pamela Yates works in the tradition of Figurative Abstract painters, reducing complex elements to their essential form and meaning but artfully blended with a sensitivity for the human heart and spirit. Using strong design and composition Pamela's technique provides a sense of balance which feels natural and personal. Her paintings have universal appeal for national and international audiences as she explores our connections through culture, family and the natural world through the eyes of a transplanted Australian and worldwide traveler sharing her interpretations of subjects ranging from archetypal symbols, portraits, traditions, legends and Indian Country from her own experiences. Currently most of Pamela's work is in oils but she continues to produce work in watercolor and mixed-media as well. Pamela is a self-taught painter aside from what she describes as inspirational mentoring from two master artists earlier in her career. She lives in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA but was born and raised near Adelaide, South Australia, lived in London, England, for twelve years and moved to the USA in 1979.
